Beauty Secrets: The Rose Edition

I love rose-based products. They smell amazing and are usually pretty and pink.

But what makes rose a good-for-you ingredient? It can take 3 different forms in your beauty products.

Rose Essential Oil

Derived from the rose flower, it takes tens of thousands of blossoms to produce just one ounce of Rose essential oil (!). Which is why it’s one of the most expensive essential oils out there. However, it is so concentrated that you only need a few drops to reap the benefits. What benefits you ask? Rose essential oil contains a mix of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and has emollient properties for moisturizing dry skin. And it also offers antiseptic and astringent properties that can treat acneic skin, as well as anti-inflammatory properties that help with redness and inflammation. It’s a one-ingredient-fits-all!

Rosehip Seed Oil

Extracted from a small berry-like seed pod on specific types of wild roses (Rosa Moschata and Rosa Rubiginosa), rosehip seed oil is packed with Vitamins A,C,D, and E, which have powerful anti-ageing and antioxidants properties. It contributes to boost skin regeneration, minimize the appearance of fine lines and counteract the damage of UV rays.

Rosewater

A by-product of the distillation process, rosewater is an excellent hydrator. It also has anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties and helps balance the skin’s pH. This combination makes rosewater a top ingredient for mists and toners.

Last and not least, the scent. Rose is not only a pleasing scent used in fragrances worldwide. It also has soothing and mood enhancing properties!
